About concrete
Higher grades such as M60 and M70 are also possible and these can be achieved with the help of admixtures in concrete. For designing concrete a set of steps is given in Indian standard code which is to be followed properly. Here designing of concrete means in what proportions cement, water, fine and coarse aggregates and admixtures are to be added. Before adding the constituents in mix, properties of all the constituents are to be checked like cement should not have lumps, cement should have proper strength, coarse aggregate should have flaky shape, fine aggregate should have proper silt contents, ph of the water should be not be less than 6 and all these checks should be according to Indian standard codes. Different lab tests are available for testing of workability of concrete like slump test, compaction factor test and many more. Workability of concrete is ensured before it is used in field.
